Fox 29/My35 to broadcast parades commercial-free

Fox News First anchors Mike Valdes and Cynthia Lee announce that Fox 29 and My35 will show the three major Fiesta parades without commercials in April. Fiesta San Antonio Commission President John Steen looks during the Feb. 13 news conference at The Fiesta Store, 2611 Broadway.

The Battle of Flowers Parade is to be shown on KABB April 25. The Texas Cavaliers River Parade, April 21, and the Fiesta Flambeau Parade, April 26, will be on KMYS. Valdes and Lee will host all three broadcasts.

The new format means that viewers won't miss favorite floats, bands or other units because of commercial interruptions. Major Fiesta corporate partners H-E-B, Capital One Bank, Chevrolet and the Texas Chevy Dealers, and AT&T will receive recognition during the shows.

Fiesta 2008 poster to be revealed Feb. 12

What's different this year: In addition to the traditional Fiesta guest list, the Fiesta Commission has invited all its individual and business members to attend the ceremony. They range from students who pay $15 to businesses that give as much as $5,000. They are true supporters of San Antonio's biggest celebration.

This new audience offers many story possibilities-for example, long-time members, Fiesta dignitaries, local military officials and Fiesta volunteers.

Steen is to introduce three new Fiesta events and their nonprofit sponsor organizations. Mathieu, a regional manager for underwriter Capital One, is among the speakers. The poster artist will be introduced, and at the climactic moment, her winning poster design will be revealed.

Ceremony participants and others will be available for interviews after the 6:15 conclusion of the ceremony.

Fiesta parade seating now under way

The Fiesta season is officially under way, with bleacher seats and street chairs now on sale for the major Fiesta parades.

To find street chairs along the 2.6-mile street parade route, go to fiesta-sa.org/tickets-streetchairinfo.aspx. That's an interactive map of the street parade route with listings for more than 100 nonprofit organizations, including contact names and phone numbers.

Fiesta Commission announces Chevrolet as official sponsor

The Fiesta^® San Antonio Commission is pleased to announce that Chevrolet has become an official Fiesta corporate partner for Fiesta 2008.

Chevrolet is a division of General Motors Corp., the world's biggest automaker. Sixteen Chevrolet dealers in and around San Antonio offer full sales and service to local residents.

Fiesta visitors will see the Chevrolet vehicle displays at Alamo Plaza on April 18 for the Opening Ceremonies, as well as on Friday, April 25 and Saturday April 26 for the street parades.�

Fiesta Store� opens Feb. 15

T-shirts, caps, tote bags, mouse pads and much more-all featuring the Fiesta 2008 poster image-are now available in The Fiesta Store^® at 2611 Broadway. Copies of the official 2008 poster are also on hand.

The store's grand opening takes place tomorrow at 10 a.m. Fiesta San Antonio Commission President John Steen and the new Miss Fiesta San Antonio, Ashley Mayle, are to present a gift bag to the lucky first customer.

The Fiesta Store^® is the only place in San Antonio with a full line of official Fiesta merchandise. Pins and medals featuring many of the 100 official Fiesta events and other special items are available along with a new Fiesta cookbook, the 2008 Fiesta calendar and lots more..

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Online shopping is available around the clock at fiestastore.fiesta-sa.org.

Fiesta 2008 poster revealed

The Fiesta San Antonio Commission revealed the official Fiesta 2008 poster Feb. 12� in a ceremony at Historic Sunset Station.
��
��More than 500 Fiesta Commission members and other guests attended the official opening event of the Fiesta season. Capital One Bank, the official bank of Fiesta, underwrote the party.

Poster artist Cecilia Paz Mujica and Fiesta Commission President John Steen unveiled the poster, assisted by City Councilwoman Mary Alice Cisneros.�

��Mujica, a 25-year-old Houston native, said she had entered the commission's poster contest twice before submitting her winning entry in August.

The poster, Serenata San Antonio, features colorfully clad mariachi musicians performing in front of The Alamo and the Tower of the Americas. A Texas flag flies in the background.

This was the first time individual and business members of the Fiesta Commission had been invited to the annual unveiling as an extra benefit of their membership.

The guests mingled with official Fiesta royalty, heard about three new Fiesta events and enjoyed the music of Hot Sauce during the evening.

They were also the first San Antonio residents to be able to purchase official Fiesta 2008 merchandise at a mini store in the Sunset Station Depot.

Fiesta carnival to move to Alamodome

At its Feb. 21 meeting, the San Antonio City Council approved the move of the Fiesta carnival from its Dolorosa Street location to Parking Lot C at the Alamodome.

City staff and Fiesta Commission officials had been looking for a new, larger carnival site for more than two years. That's because increasing development in the Dolorosa area was reducing the space available for rides and vendors.
The new carnival site is 7.8 acres-one acre larger than the old venue. The parking lot can be completely fenced for additional security.

The Alamodome is to provide 1,000 spaces at just $5 each in nearby Parking Lot B. The city and the commission also encourage carnival-goers to take advantage of Via Park and Ride.

San Antonio police will continue to patrol both the new carnival site and the adjacent neighborhood. The city will vigorously enforce its event parking plan throughout the carnival's 12-day run, said Paula Stallcup, director of Downtown Operations.

The City Council also approved a new 10-year ordinance and contract. The terms of the contract govern such things as Fiesta dates, parade seating and carnival location starting in 2009.
