The Fiesta® San Antonio Foundation conducts charitable, educational and cultural programs related of Fiesta® San Antonio.
Miss Fiesta® San Antonio began in 1949 and a separate organization was formed to oversee Miss Fiesta. She was selected in a beauty and talent pageant, where she was awarded with a scholarship to continue her education. As the economy worsened and production costs increased, the 60+ tradition of Miss Fiesta® was in jeopardy.
Beginning with Fiesta® 2013, the Fiesta San Antonio Foundation assumed responsibility for the long-standing Miss Fiesta San Antonio program.
In order to become a charitable program, the selection process changed from a beauty pageant to an internship, during which Miss Fiesta executes a community service project. This change has allowed corporations to sponsor the program with philanthropic dollars.
Miss Fiesta selects one program area from the Fiesta® San Antonio Foundation and develops and implements a project plan around that area. Projects coincide with the program areas of the Foundation: Arts & Culture, History & Heritage, Safety, Health & Wellness, or Education.
Miss Fiesta San Antonio serves as one of nine official kings and queens who reign over the city’s annual Fiesta celebration. During Fiesta, Miss Fiesta attends events as an ambassador, raising the public’s awareness of the Fiesta® San Antonio Foundation and her project plan.
Our 2018 Miss Fiesta San Antonio Carla Juarez plans to implement a community impact project to educate young students in underperforming public schools in ways to become better students. This includes a book drive to encourage reading at home, school presentations and community outreach events.
